Desk Report:
Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami has completely denied its involvement in the recent controversial statement made by Islamic speaker Tariq Monowar about the scholars of Darse Nezami. The party says that the Islamic speaker’s statement is entirely ‘his own’. The attempt to place the responsibility for it on Jamaat-e-Islami is ‘sad and unwelcome’.
Jamaat’s Assistant Secretary General Ehsanul Mahbub Zubair made these remarks in a statement sent to the media on Tuesday.
In it, he said, ‘A few days ago, Maulana Tariq Monowar gave a speech involving the scholars of Darse Nezami in a domestic discussion organized on the occasion of Siratunnabi (PBUH). The statement is entirely his own. Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami has nothing to do with it. He has already apologized for the statement. Still, the attempt to blame Jamaat-e-Islami for this statement is regrettable and unwelcome.’
Ehsanul Mahbub Zubair said, ‘Jamaat-e-Islami has always had deep respect for the scholars. We respect them as the leaders of the Muslim Ummah. They have been giving the nation the right direction and spreading the light of Islam for ages. Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami has never taken any position that would tarnish their dignity. Therefore, there is no opportunity to debate Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami on this issue.’
Recently, in a discussion meeting organized on the occasion of Sirat-un-Nabi (PBUH) Mahfil, Tarek Monowar called Darse Nezami scholars ‘friends of fascists’ and demanded that they be thrown out of the mosque. Discussion and criticism started immediately after his comment.
